After a year of printing solely in ABS, I will make my first attempt using PLA.  I'm using a modified Replicator 1 and I have a glass plate on hand.

Never underestimate the power a new printer nozzle can have on your quality of prints! Spent almost a week fighting with an old nozzle that got clogged.  I finally broke down and ordered a replacement.  Just put it in and now that extruder is printing like new.

For anyone looking for a glass plate for Makerbot Replicator 1's without having to do a group buy, I found that McMaster-Carr's Borosilicate glass plates appear to work fine.  

I tried using the plate using these dimensions: 9"x 6" at 1/8th Thickness
